The Six Edwards

author unknown [could have been Edward James Jorden (the fifth)]

For many long years we can claim
Edward for a family name,
Six men more noble, pure and good
Upon the Earth have never stood.

Edward the first, of Pryors Lee,
A gentleman of high degree
But, who by some unlucky fate,
Lost our family large estate.

Edward the second, that great man
Who Tintern Abbey Iron Works,
And kept an open house for all,
Who at "The Abbey" cared to call.

Edward the third, the Good and Just
Who Monmouth by his kind deeds blessed,
And land and money freely gave
To build a church their souls to save.

Edward the fourth, of honored name,
Who to Prince Edward Island came,
To the English poor gave land,
On which their freehold houses stand.

Edward the fifth, his righteous son,
By whom no harm was ever done,
And no great riches all his life,
But his twelve children and his wife.

Edward the sixth, the last and best,
Our noble son in the far west.
A reverend gentleman is he,
A Doctor of Philosophy.

Edward the seventh, we regret
Has not made his appearance yet,
Since precious time is wrong to waste,
Let's hope to join us, he'll make haste.
