UK Reunion - JORDAN/JORDEN FAMILY - 2003

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE CONTACT US - SEE THE BOTTOM OF THIS WEBPAGE.

It is planned to hold the 2003 Jorden re-union in the UK - July 11th onward.

A provisional Itinerary is as follows and can be changed to some extent -

Day 1 - Friday, July 11th - Arrive London Heathrow on an early morning flight if possible. Coach to pick up and transport party to Tintern in Monmouthshire - coffee/lunch stop on way. Total journey time about 3 - 3 1/2 hours. Accommodation at the Royal George Hotel ( a Jorden house) in Tintern (pictured below). This is a fairly expensive hotel so we will only book two nights here. Afternoon relax and settle in.

Day 2 - Saturday, July 12th - See Chapelhill, Ironworks (a quite hilly area), the Abbey (pictured above) - all in Tintern (coach to Ironworks). See Trelleck, Maryland and possibly Brockweir (Bowen stronghold) in afternoon. Return to Royal George - reunion supper (probably buffet). We hope some of the local Jordens will join us for this event.

Day 3 - Sunday, July 13th - Coach to Monmouth - see Edward Jorden’s church (and possible Songs of Praise service for the Jorden family) and general sightseeing. Maybe to Newlands (grave of Humphrey Jorden 1685). Lunch in Monmouth. Afternoon travel to Ludlow (pictured below)- hopefully we will have discovered where Edward of Tintern is buried by then! On to Shrewsbury to motel/cheaper hotel.

Day 4 - Monday, July 14th - See St Mary’s Church (pictured below) where Jordens worshipped in early 1700’s with memorials to William and Dorothy Jorden. Shrewsbury holds the Shropshire Record Office where there are many Jorden records. A readers ticket is required here but we will try and see if they will allow a party into the office and show some old records. Shrewsbury is an old Black and White market town and worth a look around.

Day 5 - Tuesday, July 15th - Visit to Priors Lee Hall near Telford (The Jorden family ‘pile’ that was lost through the female line) - this will depend on what conferences are being held at the time of the reunion. We have spoken with the estate manager about this. Keep fingers crossed. Possibly look at some other Jorden sites eg Alveley, Dunsley and other places.
Return to Shrewsbury for night.

Day 6 to 10 - Wednesday, July 16th to Sunday, July 20th - Onwards participants to make own arrangement for travel/accommodation to go where they would like - we know some may wish to return to London others may wish to travel to Scotland to see ancestral homes etc.

Day 11 - Monday, July 21st all return to London for 3-4 days of sightseeing, etc. Some could stay with Liz & Philip with pleasure - they are an hour from London by train. Have final meal together on the last night in or around London before North American folks return home or continue their travels.

We will arrange all accommodations/some meals and coaches for Tintern, Monmouth and Shrewsbury.

We hope that you and your family will be able to participate. We need to know who will be coming by July of this year to ensure we can book places in the hotel at Tintern. The Wye Valley (pictured below) is a tourist area in the summer and gets extrememly busy. The reunion will take place the middle July, 2003.

Please E-mail Liz Lacey on philip@talk21.com or write to Tinpots Cottage,Annington, Bramber, W.Sussex BN44 3WB, England if you would like to take part indicating who will be coming and what accommodations you will require in terms of rooms.
