Our first recipe (and a scrumptious one at
that) comes straight from Lizzie Jorden's pantry! Lizzie was married to George
Jorden, son of Martin Luther Jorden. They lived in Boston, Mass.
BATTER
cream together
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter (* add 2 eggs)
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
sift together
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
TOPPING
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1/2 cup nut meats (or rather, chopped nuts, your choice)
Pour half the mixture in tube pan that has been
greased and floured. Sprinkle half the topping over mixture. Do not mix. Add rest
of batter. Then sprinkle on rest of topping. Do not mix. Bake 45 minutes in 350
degrees oven until done.
EVERYONE LOVES TO EAT!
ESPECIALLY THE
JORDANS/JORDENS!
